Carpet cleaning is not a new thing. However, there is a right and wrong way to clean. These carpet cleaning tips will ensure a long life for your carpet while saving you time and money.
Five Cleaning Tips
Be Gone Dirt, be gone
Dirt is not something you can avoid. You attract dirt into the carpet each time you walk around. You can get rid of dirt in a more efficient way by using the right cleaning solution, clean water, and use the proper setting on the vacuum.
The right vacuum setting
You do not want the vacuum too low because it will damage the carpet. You will miss the dirt altogether when you set the vacuum too high. You want something in the middle. The best way to achieve that is to set the vacuum to its highest setting and turn it on. Then, lower the setting until you feel the "tug."
Safe vacuum practices
What you do is change the bag and filter when it gets close to being full. You should also vacuum in the areas you spend the most time in. We call them the "high traffic areas."
The Pros
Doing it the way the pros do includes everything from the right cleaning solution to steam cleaning.
Some of you may want to hire someone to take care of your carpets. You never hire someone over the phone. I do not care about how great their voice sounds. Talk to the person and settle everything with a firm agreement.
Some discount carpet cleaning products are good, and some are not. Do your own research before buying anything. You do not want to get swayed by "a good marketing ploy." They are out there, trust me.
FYI: A proper carpet cleaning takes at least 2-3 hours. Good service is going to charge you more because of the amount of work they do. Anyone who says they can get it done in less than an hour is not being honest, and their services are probably subpar. "You get what you pay for."
Pre-treat Stained Areas
Most of you are going to have stains in your home, especially in the high traffic areas. You should pre-treat those stains if you are going to get all the dirt out. You mix some good detergent in a bottle with some good, clean hot water. Spray and let it sit for about ten minutes. Start doing some general cleaning once the ten minutes are over.
You can then take your vacuum and run it lightly over the stained area. That should get the stain out. Let the area sit until it is thoroughly dry.
FYI: You do not want to get the carpet too wet. You will have a harder time getting the dirt off.
